Step into our tapestries – from digital weaving to interactive experiences
From 11 October 2025, a visit to the MOU Museum Oudenaarde will be a sensory journey through time. With brand-new digital applications, the museum will be transformed into an experiential space where the rich tradition of the Oudenaarde tapestries literally comes to life.
In the iconic 16th-century town hall and the historic Cloth Hall, where textiles were hung and traded centuries ago, you will soon be able to not only admire the masterpieces from the collection, but also truly experience them. Thanks to new interactive tools, you can delve deeper into the story behind these Flemish Masters: who they were, how they worked and what stories they incorporated into their colourful weavings.
An immersive film shows late medieval Oudenaarde as a bustling centre of tapestry production, while in the digital workshop you can try your hand at tapestry design. Discover how wool and silk were dyed, woven and transformed into prestigious showpieces. In the upper tapestry hall, let yourself be carried away by the picture stories woven into the tapestries, which still appeal to the imagination today: from mythical scenes to historical events.
The new experience tools are subtly integrated into the historical decor. This keeps the heritage central, but makes it more accessible than ever. Whether you are an art lover, a curious visitor or a family looking for an exciting outing, the MOU is a place where the history, craftsmanship and stories of these masterpieces come together. Look, listen, feel and be amazed!
