Silver Collection De Boever-Alligoridès
Oudenaarde is always referred to as the centre of tapestries, but simultaneously with the tapestry industry, the silversmith’s trade flourished as well. Oudenaarde was a small silversmith’s centre but the objects made were of high quality.
Silver from Oudenaarde
The former chapel of the town hall now houses a collection of various chocolate, coffee and tea pots, as well as sugar castors, salt cellars, mustard pots, oil-and-vinegar cruets, candleholders and tobacco boxes.
Not only profane silver, but also religious silver such as monstrances, prayer books, holy-water fonts and altar candleholders show the outstanding quality of the silver made in Oudenaarde. This wonderful collection of profane silver is a loan of the De Boever – Alligoridès family and of various local church-fabrics.

European silver
The true treasury of the town hall is the former custodian’s room that has housed a collection of top-quality European silverwork since May 2000. The collection includes decorative as well as practical silverware from the 16th, 17th and 18th century. Most of the objects date from the Golden Age. The large number of drinking cups is amazing.
The collection represents the greatest silversmiths: Paul de Lamerie (who was the gold- and silversmith of the English king) (GB), Adam van Vianen (member of an important Dutch silversmith family) (NL) and Geeraert de Rasier (Antwerp, B).
